| The project is located on grounds of the Parish of the Good Shepherd in Pawtucket. Many of the neighbors live in two- and three-level houses, with no space to have gardens of their own, so the parishioners decided to turn the church south lawn over, build raise beds, and utilize it for community gardens. URI Master Gardeners involved here teach methods on how to plant, what to plant, when to plant, how to nurture the plants, how to utilize compost, and, if there is sufficient harvest, how to preserve, freeze, etc. The plan is that this project will become a model for other entities to copy throughout Pawtucket. |
