Master Gardeners have two greenhouses at East Farm. The Garcia Greenhouse, named after the late Gail Garcia who launched the idea of selling plants to help support the MGA. It is a 96 by 22-foot facility that was erected in 2001. The second greenhouse, named the Hempe House after Rudi Hempe, was completed in 2005. It is a 96 by 27-foot structure that has state-of-the-art controls and a bench warming system for starting plants from seed. Both houses were built almost entirely by MG volunteers who regularly work at East Farm. Besides being used to propagate plants for sale and for various other MG projects, the houses are used to educate new MGs and the public. The greenhouse complex also includes a storage shed, a composting operation, wintering-over houses for perennials, and an outside pad for perennials.
