The management of Prescott Farm's gardens and landscape will actively support the Newport Restoration Foundation's (NRF) mission to preserve and educate. Specifically, wise land-use of the property, including open-space preservation and replication of historic gardening and agricultural uses, reflects NRF's commitment to preserve Aquidneck Island's landscape, built environment, and cultural history. As part of NRF's strong emphasis on education, this project provides multi-faceted learning opportunities, with an emphasis on participatory activities. Through research, planning, planting, maintaining, harvesting and other activities related to Prescott Farm's gardens, this project will provide many levels of learning for Master Gardeners, NRF staff, and the general public. This living laboratory will produce two gardens that showcase and interpret historic gardens and period horticulture as well as best practices in contemporary gardening. |
