This multi-year maintenance and data-collecting project is a partnership among the MGA, South Kingstown Land Trust the and The American Chestnut Foundation (MA-RI). The project is designed to raise hybrid American chestnut trees that are resistant to the blight that wiped out billions of American chestnut trees in the 20th Century. The goal is to develop hybrid American chestnuts that are acclimated to RI growing condition so that progeny of these trees can be introduced eventually into RI woodlands. The project site is off Tuckertown Road, Wakefield
