The rose garden was a gift to the URI Botanical Gardens from URI Master Gardener Chet Clayton. With almost 100 roses of 16 varieties—all sustainable—and set within a circular arbor, it has become one of the center pieces of the URI Botanical Gardens. Master Gardeners keep the roses blooming by regular deadheading, pruning, fertilizing, and general care. Three to four times a year, Mike Chute, an accredited American Rose Society Consulting Rosarian, co-founder of the Rhode Island Rose Society, and URI Master Gardener, conducts workshops at the garden for spring opening, summer pruning, propagation, and winter care.
